Justin.tv Loves Nachos

Yesterday, thanks to Hooman of Hooman TV fame, we were invited back to the 97.3FM Studio in San Francisco to host another nacho party for the Sarah and No Name Morning Show. While we didn't get much air time during the visit, it was nice to see the crew again, hang out, eat nachos, and drink beers...at 9 in the morning.

A nice bonus this time, was we were able to meet Justin.tv. Justin lives in San Francisco and has recently started documenting his life by wearing a camera on his head 24/7. Even in the bathroom. Even on a date. But that's not why we like him or find him interesting. We like Justin because he loves nachos!

Fight Over Nachos: Reloaded

We recently wrote a post about a fight that broke out between two girls at Revere High School over nachos. While police never elaborated on the circumstances, only to disclose that they were both arrested for assault and battery, there have been a few stories written about the scuffle.

One in particular, written by Susie of "Everyone loves a Boston girl," was particularly interesting since it was from the female perspective. Susie's post titled, "I too would fight for nachos," suggests:

"We should create a list of rules from now on? Everyone must agree on the toppings on nachos before entering the restaurant. Always order the larger size. Only take one spoonful of salsa, one spoonful of guacamole, and one spoonful of sour cream. Don't eat all of the nachos that are smothered and cheese and leave the bare ones."

Brilliant, Susie. We couldn't agree with you more. If you think about it, your instruction should really be nacho common sense... but then again, so should mindful one-for-one car merging during traffic. But it only takes one halfwit to stir up roadrage, or in this case, a nacho brawl.

Nothing says "Nachos" like "Raw Fish?"

I love nachos. And given that I'm Japanese, it's no surprise that I also love sushi. But to find out that the winning recipe at this year's Inland Northwest Healthy Nacho Recipe Contest was Ceviche Nachos, induced a bit of skeptisism. Granted, we've tried nacho cheese on gourment sausages, we've even tried nacho cheese on ice cream, but raw fish? No, really. Fish...that's raw...with nacho cheese. That's the winning recipe?

Yup.

Ann Yanecek's Ceviche Nachos won the top spot and will be featured on the Downriver Grill menu through Cinco de Mayo. Yanececk said her inspiration came from a fish taco recipe that husband loves.

Fight Over Nachos

We've all been in a fight. "Hey, that's my girl!" "I am NOT a wimp!" "I said I wanted my Appletini shaken!" But I don't think a fight has ever broken out because of nachos. Until now.

Two 16-year-old girls were arrested for assault and battery on Friday, April 13 (how appropriate) at Revere High School after an argument over nachos turned ugly... The argument, that is... Not the girls. We don't have any knowledge that the girls are anything below average looking.

Captain Dennis Collyer of the Revere Police Department said, "The girls were in the school's cafeteria in a lunch line around 11:30 a.m., when they began to punch each other." The Captain had no further details about the nacho fight.

Emo: Life is Painful, Go Eat Nachos

The word Emo is short for "emotional". It represents a type of music, personality, and fashion. Typically Emos are very sad and angry. They like to have their hair in front of their face (to hide their tears?). Emos like to wear old and beat up clothes (to conform to non-conformity?). Usually they are very shy and introverted (ashamed of their stupid hair?). Emos also listen to music with themes of confusion, depression, and loneliness (ashamed of their stupid hair?).

So what do Emos do to help hold back the tears and avoid their dark eyeliner from running? No, they don’t use waterproof eyeliner. They EAT NACHOS!

There are two pieces of evidence that help us make this conclusion:

Radio Alice II: The Wrath of Cheese

After a quick phone interview with Sarah & No Name last Thursday, the three of us were invited into the studio the following morning to do an on-air "private nacho tasting" of our Official Recipe with the morning crew.

That morning we met up and carpooled into the Alice @ 97.3 Station located in beautiful San Francisco. Already excited, on the way up we got even more amped when we heard them discussing our upcoming appearance. At that point, all we could think about was how terrible it would be if they ended up hating the recipe. When we arrived, we were greeted by Hooman and led into the Green Room to set up shop and begin cooking up our heavenly orange-colored gravy.

Below we've included two audio clips. The first is a little pre-appearance banter; the second, our on-air interview. Wondering how it all turned out? Well...you'll have to listen. But to give you a clue, they've invited us back for their Cuatro de Mayo broadcast! Oh yeah...one last thing. Christy, the gal that called in with your...ummm..."joke?" Could you email us and explain? We're all still trying to figure that one out!

As Heard on Alice @ 97.3

Yesterday, we received an email from a reader tipping us off that the local morning DJs "Sarah & No Name" of Alice @ 97.3FM were talking about our site over the air. I called in and arranged a phone interview for this morning at 5:40am.

For the uninitiated, The Sarah & No Name program is the number one morning show in the San Francisco Bay Area. So to get an opportunity to speak with them was pretty exciting. And although I didn't have my two nacho loving compadres at my side, the interview went well. Bottomless Nachos

Nacho loving Dodger fans have reason to celebrate. Dodger Stadium has converted their right-field pavilion into "All-You-Can-Eat" seats. For $35 in advance or $40 on game day, fans will have access to as many hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn, soft drinks, and best of all NACHOS as they want.

But before you go out any buy a ticket to the next game hoping to stockpile some cheesy goodness into your napsack, be aware that there are limitations. The food booths open 90 minutes before games and close two hours after it begins. And if you try ordering 100 bowls of nachos you'll be denied. But, "if a person goes up there and asks for four for his family, he won't be told no," said Camille Johnston, the Dodgers senior vice president of communications.

Hats off to the entire Dodger organization for providing such a great fan amenity. We salute you!

Nachos. Faster.

What can be more American than fast food? When we crave calories and cholesterol, the last thing we want standing in our way is having to wait more than 30 seconds to get it. Fortunately for all of us attention deficit snackers our there, MasterCard and Taco Bell have...

Oh look! A birdy just landed on my windowsill. Aaaaand, there it goes.

What was I talking about again?

Oh yeah. MasterCard and Taco Bell have made the process of getting our nachos even faster! They're currently testing the MasterCard PayPass Touch & Go payment solution at approximately 100 Taco Bell stores. This means that the next time you want to order enough nachos to get your daily allowance of Vitamin C, you'll be able to shave precious seconds off your total wait time. Priceless!

Nachos = Win for Florida?

The NCAA Basketball Championship game between Florida and Ohio State is all but a distant memory. But four friends feel that their love of nachos helped propel Florida to their 84 to 75 win over Ohio State. Dan recalls the preparation leading up to the game:

"I supplied the BIG screen television - in HD of course; Scott supplied the beer and the hot dogs; Matt, the chips and a few gallons of Nikko's Nacho Cheese Sauce; and Gary, he was in charge of the Nacho Cheese Fountain!"

At halftime, the guys grilled hot dogs and drizzled hot nacho cheese sauce on them directly from the fountain.

Great Game, Better Nachos

I just got home from the last game of the regular season for the San Jose Sharks. And what a game it was! Trailing 2 to 3 against the visiting Canucks, Jonathan Cheechoo scored with only 30 seconds left in the third to force overtime. But before we get to the final outcome, lets reverse time to before the start of the game.

When I arrived, I made my way to the Una Mas! Mexican Grill located in the HP Pavilion. I ordered nachos, a large soda, and then headed to my seats in section 212 before digging into the box of chip and cheese goodness.

Ding! Your Nachos are Done (Redux)

Last month, we posted a story on a patent for a microwavable nacho box. Shortly after, the inventor, Kim Y. Edomwonyi contacted us. During a quick conversation, we learned that Kim currently lives in the midwest in a small town in the southeastern tip of Iowa. Originally from Atlanta, GA, Kim never intend to stay but it's "comfortable, with no traffic, less stress, and safer" than the big city.

But what inspired Kim to become an inventor? And furthermore, what was the inspiration behind the microwavable nacho box? We were able to conduct a quick interview with Kim to find out the answers to these questions.

As Heard on KGO-AM 810 Radio

Yesterday, ABC owned KGO-AM 810 Radio invited us to their Downtown San Jose, California office to participate in a quick interview with reporter Rob Artigo. Excited, the three of us hopped into a car and drove over wondering what to expect.

When we arrived, Rob greeted us, brought us into his studio, and flipped open the mic. We chatted, laughed, and had a great time for about 20 minutes. A few hours later, our segment was broadcast over the San Francisco Bay Area airwaves for all to listen to. We couldn't be any happier with the way it turned out!

If you're like us, you've spent countless nights laying awake thinking about if there are other applications nacho cheese is suitable for aside from consumption. It was that singular introspection that innitiated us to create a test lab specifically focused on answering these questions.

The Nacho Cheese Test Lab will be an ongoing feature that will report on our nacho cheese experiments. Needless to say, if you have an idea for a study you'd like us to conduct, write us. We do the tests so you don't have to!
