Last month, we posted a story on a patent for a microwavable nacho box. Shortly after, the inventor, Kim Y. Edomwonyi contacted us. During a quick conversation, we learned that Kim currently lives in the midwest in a small town in the southeastern tip of Iowa. Originally from Atlanta, GA, Kim never intend to stay but it’s “comfortable, with no traffic, less stress, and safer” than the big city.
But what inspired Kim to become an inventor? And furthermore, what was the inspiration behind the microwavable nacho box? We were able to conduct a quick interview with Kim to find out the answers to these questions.

ILNC: What interested you in becoming an inventor?
Kim: Well… it happened by accident. I’ve always been creative but mostly with more of the artistic and craft like persuasion. Binging on nachos one day helped me hit some creative nirvana and a light bulb went off in my brain.
ILNC: What inspired you to invent the micowavable nacho box?
Kim: Pure love… of cheese nachos that is.
ILNC: Do you really like nachos?
Kim: Huh? What chew talkin’ ’bout Willis? Oops! Sorry… that’s ebonic for I don’t understand the question. Just teasing. Of course I like nachos! Is this a trick question?
ILNC: Do you like your nachos topped with anything aside from cheese?
Kim: Oh yeah! Occasionally I like a big pile of stuff as a topping. Guacamole, sour cream, salsa, black olives, at least 3 different kids of cheese and of course jalepeno. But if I’m at a baseball game or the movie theatre that only has cheese nachos, or if I’m at home and just want a savory snack and I’m too lazy to fix deluxe nachos, I’m very happy with simplicity.
ILNC: How did you feel when you found out that our site wrote a post about your invention?
Kim: Very nice article! I was pleased and dang proud. I forwarded it to a couple of my buddies. They don’t think of me as an inventor. Not sure if the article convinced them… Probably not.
ILNC: Any last words of wisdom for the nacho loving community?
Kim: Real nachos are a plate of corn tortilla chips draped with velveety smooth cheese and possibly topped with more stuff like jalapenos etc. If you have a plate of nachos, and you’re dipping the chip in a container of cheese, that is not how nachos were originally intended to be enjoyed. Don’t be dainty! Nachos rule baby!
ILNC: Kim, we couldn’t agree with you more. Thanks for the interview!
