When All Else Fails...

Kraft_cheese From time to time I find myself in a situation where I crave the melted goodness that is nacho cheese, but my supplies are totally dry and the grocery store is closed or I’ve had one too many glasses of wine to drive.

When faced with utterly desperate moments like this, I often turn to the following recipe which I’ve dubbed “Tough Spot Nacho Cheese.”

This recipe is based on some simple ingredients found in most homes.

Tough Spot Nacho Cheese
Serves 1-2

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 7-10 individual slices of American cheese

Instructions:

  1. Place a small saucepan on stove and turn dial to medium heat.
  2. Pour 1/4 cup of milk into saucepan. Let warm for a few minutes (but don’t bring to a boil).
  3. Gently place individual sliced American cheese into saucepan with milk (I use Kraft Singles).
  4. Stir regularly for 2-5 minutes or until mixture has a saucy consistency.
  5. Serve, eat and enjoy.

Note:  Above are the bare minimum ingredients.  Depending on what’s available in your kitchen (and based on my experience) you may want to consider adding the following optional ingredients.

Optional Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce (adds spice)
  • 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese or 1-2 slices of cheddar cheese

Tough spot nacho cheese sauce. okay so you have half the recipe. I have worked in several fast food joints, and what several use is just this.... equal parts processed cheese slice and shredded cheddar. microwave on high until bubbly and viola! nacho cheese sauce. don't forget to add your jalapenos! yummy!

Uzair -- This is definitely common when using Kraft singles...that's why it's a "use in a pinch only" recipe. The best way to keep it creamy is to simply keep it warm

I tried to make it and it turned out fine, but after a couple of minutes the cheese became thick. Anyone know how I could prevent this from happening?

This is really good. I am eating it right now, as I don't have the ingredients for the "official" recipe. I topped em with a few jalapeño slices. Keep up the good work.

....or the secret sauwce @ La Vic's! Yum!

NICE. You could also replace the optional Tabasco with Tapitillo.

Nice recipe! I'll definitely need to give it a shot if I'm ever in a pinch.
